They take up amazing a mounts of iron and gold, I had stacks and stacks of them before I built a railroad, they are so inefficient, do people actually use them for transportation or for mining, it seems that they never really pay themselves off and are just for decoration or just to say that I built a railroad in survival, so please mail here any stories or experiences with minecarts in survival

I used to never brand them until I just recently constitute a convient utilise for them.
In my survival world, I have a huge strip mine quite far from my Chest/Furnace room. I've set up an surreptitious railway straight from my chest room to my mine. I have chests at the bottom with Minecarts in it and Chests in Minecarts.
See, when I mine, I mine for a long time and I don't like throwing out stacks and stacks of Dirt, Cobble and Gravel. I may need them afterwards! So, I have a Chest in a Minecraft and shoot information technology off home. When I'k done mining, I take a Minecart and shoot myself domicile to organize my stuff I have nerveless!

I employ them to travel between my bases, and if yous remember they are expensive, I've mined over 50,000 runway from abandoned mineshafts, and mined over 200,000 fe ore, plus 27,000 gold ore - both vastly in excess of what I've actually used (virtually viii,000 rails placed, though I've used less since I mined a couple m when moving the runway lines a while dorsum (based on distances between my bases 6 km of railways is nigh correct, my furthest base is 2.5 km away, with a couple bends, with lines to other bases in all four directions from my main base); I've also made more blocks of golden than the ore I've mined would suggest due to aureate from mineshaft chests, with just a few stacks used for powered rails; oh, and did I say mineshaft chests? More gratuitous iron).
In fact, I've never even made whatsoever regular rails, at least non in this world:
By those numbers, I could make a railway over 600 km long, with plenty powered rails for 890 km of straight railway as I utilize one powered rail every 33 blocks; i.e. one-half a stack of regular runway, and so one powered rail on a redstone block (I wouldn't have enough of these, though I could use redstone torches instead, as I used at starting time); there is no need to take more, except at turns and the ends (I also employ unpowered rails to stop at the finish) since you can maintain maximum speed with as few as 1 powered rail every 38 blocks (the Wiki'southward values from 32-38 are all really the same, 34 blocks isn't really the best as they seem to indicate, I use 33 since it is easy to split a stack into one-half-stacks without counting as I lay them downwards).
I also regularly mine enough iron and golden for my entire rail organisation in a few play sessions, whereas I've built up my runway system over a year's worth of play sessions, and of class you can make fe and gold farms that churn out more iron and aureate you tin can ever use in a single night of AFKing, then saying they are "expensive" is no excuse not to use them.

I used them in survival and depend on them in survival servers.

I have quite a few railroads connecting places of interest from my bases in the overworld, and a more extensive system in the Nether (Minutor screenshot attached) for travelling from ane base of operations to some other (at that place are three in my earth, almost 12000/8000 blocks between the first and current, with no overworld link). I've mined quite a few rails from mineshafts, and loads of iron in ,y worlds early on days, simply having iron farms now (and recently a gold farm) makes it relatively easier just to brand them.

On SMP, rail systems in the Under are really nice for like shooting fish in a barrel admission to each other's bases. Also, every bit others have said, if its a defended world, y'all'll build up enough supplies to brand rails achievable, even if they're non exactly cheap.

I personally Don't use them only I could see why people might! some SMP servers are HUGE and require some kind of transportation system or players would fumble around aimlessly with no idea where they are or should be!

Depends on how many abandoned mineshafts I find. Free rail! Plus, minecarts aren't that expensive to make anyways.

I use a minecart with chest to haul items to a sorter and so auto render when empty. Saves me having to make trips to the surface when my inventory gets total.

For item ship, I generally use h2o streams over packed ice. This depends on the availability of packed ice. Too, you lot need to be conscientious that your items don't laissez passer into an unloaded clamper and despawn after 5 minutes. That is i of the benefits of a track system, your items are safely in a chest and won't disappear even if your minecart wanders off into unloaded chunks.
If yous were mining all the gold/iron for the rails, that might exist a bit of a resource drain. But if you have a Golden farm/Atomic number 26 farm, it probably won't matter that much.

I use rails all over the place for transportation, too, to the signal where I ever comport my minecart with me. I don't normally space my powered rails to work well with chest minecarts though.
My mine simply has chests half-full of cobble, dirt, and gravel (and now the new one.8 rock too), on average every 18 blocks forth the railway. If I ever need it, I can get down and retrieve information technology then (and I take, several times).

I really don't use minecarts except mining! Information technology goes from my firm to my mine and thats information technology! Literally! End o' story

I knew someone would eventually ask this question. Rails/minecarts are pretty important to me. You can click Here and read most minecart usages, considering minecarts are much more than only transportation. I have diverse bases, such as a stone brick castle in my extreme hills biome. Or my cozy spruce wood village in the mega taiga. And aye, I realize I can only use portals. But- I don't. Having and then many bases of some sort, plus all of my farms, and all the spawners in places, I don't retrieve I desire to mine out x pieces of obsidian each time. I accept a base in 16 unlike biomes- 160 pieces of obsidian already. And so, I have 3 far abroad farms. Now 190 obsidian. Comprehend? And then, my mines. I like to continue my branch mines spread out, so I travel to distant places to mine. Say I accept 5 far abroad mines. 240 obsidian.
Building a complex rail-road organization is not very hard, despite the name. Information technology is in-fact, not complex. Information technology just takes a bottle of patience. Not only that, but I will admit I'm stepping away from transportation. Now, near people utilise them for picking up items or employ them for transporting items from 1 place to another. Hopper minecarts and chest minecarts are essential to most farms.
So, yes. Minecarts are very much beingness used.

I mainly use minecarts but to go from village to village due to the villages being really far apart, other than that I use them for putting pigs in a minecart and then make the said minecart become in circles.

On my family unit server, we accept two villages and our main base of operations connected past railroad. We could use horses, but rails are just easier. Further, it gives occasion for edifice railway stations, tunnels and diverse kind of bridges, so I'd say railroad definitely see adept use hither.

I really don't use mine carts for much. I accept other uses for iron, such as machines from the applied science mods that I use (in some of my game profiles, anyway).
Even so, I do like to utilize mine carts for quick access to my mines. Since my mines tend to take a long staircase tunnel leading down into them, it can exist kind of a long walk to get to the actual mine. Mine carts with plenty of booster tracks go far a much quicker (and more than-or-less effortless) trip.
I tend to use mounts for long-distance travel in the rare cases that I do travel long distances. The chocobos from ChocoCraft are my favorite mount. I have besides idea almost building an airship using Archimedes Ships, especially at present that there are ways to send mobs on the ships (the ships from that modern are not solid when they are active, so entities just fall through them).
Long-distance railways aren't something that I would use a lot even if I had them. I know that some people rely on them, but I adopt to save my resources for other things, peculiarly since I don't travel long distances very ofttimes anyway then it would probably be a waste to build that kind of infrastructure.

Railways are definitely useful. And affordable. A single iron ingot gets most iii rails, and gold rails are affordable as well, as they can be used every 32 blocks on flat rails and maintain high speeds.
They tin can exist used to send chests too as you, to distribute things to storage and from information technology. They are a proficient way to movement large distances while afk.

When I play survival with friends we always use railroads to connect our bases, and if we notice something useful like a mob spawner we connect them too.
